A tiny shipping label on a large sticker is not, by itself, a reason to replace the printer. The source file may use Letter-size paper, the print dialog may scale it, or the app may offer a different route from the browser. First identify where the dimensions change.
This is a document-based diagnostic checklist. It is not a repair tested on a customer’s printer, and it does not guarantee carrier acceptance.
First check the carrier and the source format
Etsy’s current help page describes 4 × 6 formatting for USPS shipping labels. Do not assume every carrier, service or document in an Etsy order offers the same format. Confirm the options for the actual label you are printing, including any additional international paperwork.
Download the original label PDF. Examine its page dimensions rather than estimating the size from how it fills a phone screen. A label positioned on an 8.5 × 11 page is different from a PDF page that is itself 4 × 6.
Etsy names specific officially supported printers in its help. Other hardware printing a correctly sized PDF is a separate compatibility question; the three printers in Tagrivo’s catalog should not be described as Etsy-certified on that basis.
Match three dimensions
Check these independently:
- PDF page size: what the original downloaded document contains.
- Print-dialog paper size: what the app or driver believes is loaded.
- Actual stock: the labels in the printer, with the correct orientation and feed setup.
Shrinking a whole Letter page onto a 4 × 6 label can shrink the shipping information along with it. Selecting a matching label format at the source is preferable to compensating with arbitrary enlargement. If the available file is wrong for your workflow, consult the platform or manufacturer instructions for that file type.
Avoid cropping away service information, addresses or any part of a barcode. Do not stretch the barcode to make it fill the sticker. An attractive preview is not evidence that a scanner will read a modified label.
Use the preview as a diagnostic step
Check that the complete label appears once, that the page is oriented correctly, and that the paper-size setting matches the PDF. Inspect scaling or fit options if your print dialog offers them. Menus differ between apps and systems, so there is no universal button sequence that fixes every combination.
If output spills onto another label or advances through blanks, follow the exact model’s media-loading and calibration instructions. Do not change feed or sensor settings based on instructions for another 941 variant or an unrelated printer.
Rollo: distinguish an Etsy app problem from a printer problem
Rollo’s Etsy support article recommends a computer-browser printing route and describes known limitations of direct printing from Etsy Seller on a phone. It suggests saving the label file and printing the saved file when direct app printing fails.
That is a route to investigate, not a result we reproduced. If a manufacturer sample prints but the Etsy file does not, compare the app/file path before concluding that the printer is defective. Our mobile printing guide explains why a supported phone and an unsupported app route can coexist.
The same Rollo article says the Etsy selling channel in Rollo Ship is currently unavailable following a policy change. A channel failing to synchronize is distinct from the hardware’s ability to print a downloaded label. Reconnecting a channel is not a general sizing fix.
A sensible stop point before buying hardware
Keep a short record of the exact model, OS/app, carrier/service, original PDF dimensions and selected paper size. Do not send customer addresses, account credentials or live shipping labels to public forums. Use official support if the documented route still fails.
Only reconsider the printer when you identify a real incompatibility, such as needing verified phone printing from a USB-only workstation model. A 300 dpi upgrade cannot correct the wrong page size. Start with the buying guide and Printer Finder if hardware is the limiting factor.
